Curtis Ripley

Curtis Ripley uses the anti-figurative aesthetic of American Abstract Expressionists to inform his artistic process.
Ripley's vibrant paintings are characterized by spontaneous brushstrokes atop gessoed surfaces, where splatters and drips coalesce into dynamic compositions. Ripley earned his MFA from the University of Wisconsin and his BFA from Texas Tech University. Ripley has exhibited extensively, including solo exhibitions at prestigious venues such as William Turner Gallery in Santa Monica and Page Bond Gallery in Richmond, VA. His work is held in numerous public collections worldwide, including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Galerie Urs Meile in Beijing, and the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond, VA, among others. Throughout his career, Ripley has been recognized with awards such as the National Endowment for the Arts Artists Fellowship in 1979 and the Juror's Award at Zeichnung Heute, Kunsthalle Nurnberg in 1983. Presently, he lives and works in Los Angeles, where he continues to explore the interplay of color, gesture, and abstraction in his paintings.
