Kat Thompson uses photography, textiles, sculptural collages, and installations to explore Black selfhood within the African Diaspora.
Her Afro-Jamaican American identity informs her work, which delves into personal and found materials to trace her family’s journey and confront her heritage. Thompson’s exhibitions include Fenwick Gallery and Gillespie Gallery at George Mason University, and the Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art in Reston, Virginia. She received the Young Alumni Commissioning Award from George Mason University and the Hamiltonian Artists Fellowship. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from George Mason University and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography & Film from Virginia Commonwealth University.
