Viewfind 9: A Group Photography Exhibition

Jan 17 - Feb 15, 2020

Page Bond Gallery is proud to present View Find 9, a group exhibition comprised of works by fourteen women in our side gallery. Artists include Mary Ellen Bartley, Sally Mann, Elizabeth McGrady, Annielaurie Erickson, Kally Malcom, Cynthia Henebry, Emily Fisher, Ricky Weaver, Angela Franks Wells, Elizabeth Mead, Willie Anne Wright, Maggie Flanigan, Amanda Means & Emily White.

In her series, Parables of Light, Ricky Weaver reimagines and invigorates the image repertoire ascribed to paradigmatic representations of Blackness and black women’s bodies. Weaver’s work poses a powerful un-doing of stereotypical conceptions related to this imagery. The women represented in her photos offer new archives and images that expose these mythologies, and through an unspoken vernacular, inform the Black feminist narrative over every age.

Ricky Weaver is an image-based artist from Ypsilanti, Michigan. She earned her BFA in Photography from Eastern Michigan University in 2014, and an MFA in photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2018. Since 2018, she has worked as Part-time faculty in the photography department at Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, and Washtenaw Community College. Weaver has been invited to exhibit work at the Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, MI, The Beacon Project of Sacramento, CA, Sediment Arts in Richmond, VA and more. Her work has been acquired by private collectors such as Linden Nelson, Pamela Applebaum and Carrie Mae Weems.
