Page Bond Gallery is thrilled to present a series of Mac Ball’s abstract waterscapes in his new solo exhibition, Islands . With a naturalist’s affinity instilled in him as a young boy, Mac Ball has traversed the various and diverse waterways of America and abroad with a meditative eye. From the narrow North Carolina streams of his childhood, to the magnificent rivers of Montana, to the manicured gardens of Japan, Ball attributes a curious attention to these environments on macro and micro scales in his painterly, colorfield works. Encompassing principles of asymmetry, impermanence and simplicity, Ball’s works highlight the curiosity of “islands in a stream” and the implications of stasis and movement therein. Ball’s passion for the riverine and coastal landscape extends to his professional life as an architect specializing in stormwater management and climate change solution in affected cities across the United States.

Mac Ball earned his BA in Studio Art and English from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1975, and went on to complete his Masters in Architecture from Yale in 1978 with top honors as a William Wirt Winchester Travelling Fellow. Ball has pursued his career as an architect since Yale, contributing to various firms since 1978, and founding his own, Waggonner and Ball LLC, in 1989. Ball has participated in various group and architectural exhibitions over the past two decades. Ball lives and works in New Orleans, Louisiana.
